Revelation 2:1
"To the angel of the church in Ephesus write..."
This ancient city will take you on an unforgettable journey into the early years of Christianity. In Ephesus, we will see: the Temple of Hadrian, the Temple of Domitian, the Temple of Serapis, the Upper Agora and Basilica, the Odeon, the Terrace Houses, the Town Hall, the Baths, the Celsus Library, and the Ancient Toilets. Additionally, the Ancient Theater, reflecting the grandeur of Ephesus with its 25,000-person capacity, is among the places to visit. This theater is the site of the riot where a merchant named Demetrius incited the public against Paul's teachings. We will experience this scene from Acts 19:23-34 in person.
Acts 19:28-30
"When they heard this, they were furious and began shouting: 'Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!' The city was in an uproar, and the crowd rushed into the theater... Paul wanted to enter, but the disciples would not let him..."
After lunch, we will visit the Basilica of Saint John, built by Emperor Justinian in the 6th century AD. Saint John lived, wrote his Gospel, and passed away here. As is known, he came to Ephesus around 37-38 AD and worked to spread Christianity.
Revelation 2:8
"To the angel of the church in Smyrna write: These are the words of him who is the First and the Last, who died and came to life again..."
We continue our journey with Smyrna (present-day Izmir), the second church mentioned in Revelation. The Ancient Agora Market will be visited, and a discussion on Faith and Nonviolent Resistance will be held.
Overnight stay will be in Pergamum
After breakfast, we go to Pergamum, where the 3rd church in Revelation is located. Pergamum rose to prominence after the death of Alexander the Great in 323 BC and was annexed by Rome in 133 BC. However, in the Book of Revelation, Jesus informs Saint John that this is "Satan's throne" and that the people must repent.
Revelation 2:12
"To the angel of the church in Pergamum write: These are the words of him who has the sharp, double-edged sword..."
The Acropolis and then the Red Basilica will be visited. After lunch, we will leave Pergamum and proceed to Akhisar district, which is Thyatira, the 4th church. Thyatira was praised for its increasing faith but criticized for its tolerance of "Jezebel."
Revelation 2:18
"To the angel of the church in Thyatira write: These are the words of the Son of God, whose eyes are like blazing fire and whose feet are like burnished bronze..."
Thyatira is an ancient Greek city founded by Seleucus I Nicator in 290 BC. It was an important settlement for the Lydian and Pergamene Kingdoms.
In the evening, we arrive in Sardis (5th church) and stay overnight.
Revelation 3:1
"To the angel of the church in Sardis write: These are the words of him who holds the seven spirits of God and the seven stars. I know your deeds; you have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead."
After breakfast, we visit Sardis, the 5th church.
We will visit the White Marble Royal Road, the Temple of Artemis, the large Gymnasium, and one of the largest synagogues of ancient times. Although it was a powerful and wealthy city in ancient times, it was described as "dead" by God in Revelation 3:1-6.
Revelation 3:7
"To the angel of the church in Philadelphia write: These are the words of him who is holy and true, who holds the key of David..."
After lunch, we proceed to Philadelphia (present-day Alaşehir). This 6th church received great praise from God. We will visit the ruins of Saint John's Church and discuss the congregation's loyalty. Afterwards, we will go to Pamukkale. Here, the 7th and last church, Laodicea, is located.
Revelation 3:14
"To the angel of the church in Laodicea write: These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God's creation."
Here, we will discuss the church that Saint John criticized for being "neither hot nor cold." Well-preserved structures such as the Stadium, Gymnasium, and Theater will be visited.
Overnight stay will be at a thermal hotel in Pamukkale.
After breakfast, we go to Hierapolis. It became an important Christian center through Paul's missionary activities. This city is mentioned in Colossians 4:13. The archaeological ruins will be visited.
Afterwards, we proceed to Colossae. This is where the Christian community mentioned in Philemon, one of Paul's letters, was located. While Paul gives advice in his letter to the Colossians, he emphasizes Christian brotherhood in his letter to Philemon. A discussion on these letters will be held. After lunch, we will transfer you to Adnan Menderes Airport and bid you farewell.
